I have to protect my logo!

Have you ever wondered why some agencies and corporations protect their logos like a pile of gold?

It's like "try to find that single person who controls the databank > contact this person [if you find the email address] > ask him or her the username and password > then you can download the poor 72 resolution JPG which you try to implement in the print materials > And don't forget to read the 20+ page guideline to it!".

And in the end, most likely, that one person who is responsible of this all, is on a vacation.

It reads: Confidential

Have you ever thought why's there "confidential" in many presentator's slides, even if the topic is general information? And isn't a presentation overall kind of, errm, public? o_O

Just asking.

A Quote from Thinkertoys

"A problem is nothing more than an opportunity in work clothes. A successful businessperson pays attention to problems, converting the problems into opportunities and deciding which opportunities are worth pursuing. These opportunities become productive challenges."

- How nicely put "Stop whining".

Marko Tuukkanen @ Demola – Software development for mobile devices

Marko_tuukkanen

The Presenter: Marko Tuukkanen

Some notes of the presentation:

Should you start to create to Meego, or not? If you are already a mobile developer and have the resources (and ideas and will), maybe you want to be a spearhead in this new platform. - It has a nice ring to it as it's assimilated to Linux. Marketing, anyone?

So what platform to create on? Basically you have to choose. And this depends on what you want to do. S 40 volumes are big if you are targeting the emerging markets.

Q: What happens to S40 if other platforms are on the rise in the emerging markets?
A: Basically S40 can still be a valid choice as it is developing.

Where to get the information about different platforms? Different platforms have different dev forums that you may want to visit. -Comment: This guy is good, he didn't even mention that you should go to Nokia sites. Should he had?

Qt apps are coming and the sales are rising. (Figures anyone?)

Different platforms have different development tools.

Symbian emulator compared to iPhone: it may be slow, but it runs real Symbian OS.

Q: Emulator vs. simulator? An emulator is slower to start, but more accurate in the connections than a simulator.

------
Legal issues:

Innovations and ideas are great, but without patents they are a bit unstable. Check the patent databases when you have an idea.

Q: Don't you have to have more than just an idea to patent it?
A: You have to have a roadmap to develop your idea. Implement it to your development process. You can patent it before you start the development, but if you fail to develop it, patents lapse in time.

Using open source components (code. etc) in your product, app or whatever, is a bit tricky. One should always read the license - simple advice.

If your friend gives you a piece of code, one should make an agreement when using it.

-----
Selling:

If you have a multiple language market, make the app in English; it can be then translated to other languages, sometimes even in the device itself.

Overall: Selling your thing isn't the most agile thing in the world. Many things along the way: licence agreements, violations of using other peoples software or ideas or whatever, who sells your product and takes the responsibility and the money, etc. Really uplifting, isn't it? Shouldn't Forum Nokia or whoever, be the bumper and the help in this and empower the developers to create? Is it working like this? Would be great to hear from ppl what they think about this ecosystem and is it working.

Why do we feel to be worthless?

Why do we define our world by speaking bad about others, instead of letting them be what they are, and lived our own lives as fully as we could instead?

Why do we seek and wait the failure of others to make ourselves feel better?

Why do we live negative instead of positive when it's just a matter of choice? And most importantly; why do we choose like this, even when we have the possibility to choose otherwise?

Presentation: Alf Rehn

Gary Dahl's Pet Rock

Should we get rid of the word 'creativity' as it has become obsolete and like a cute puppy which everyone likes.

Why old camera giants didn'd do Flip? Because consepts like it disgust them. "We do always 'better quality'".

If you would've made a marketing study about IKEA, it had never been established.

Anti Fan group: Could you get more emotion and people who really care about your thing with them? Why do like everyone?

Economy isn't built on necessity. It's Illoom Balloons. If you try to create innovations with reason, you end up creating porridge.

Why do socks come in pairs, why do you consider them to come in pairs? Because of programming. How do you hack it open?

If you are iteratively creative, it doesn't mean you're overall creative. Basing on one model may even hold you back. Are you actually creating or thinking that you are? Are you really thinking outside the box or believing that you are.

Drucker: First principle of business is to create customer, not revenue or business processes.

When you are on the edge, when you don't believe in something; in that moment you have something - you've found an edge in your world.

"I'm sitting in the chair of many startups; always some of them are ideas I don't believe in."

When you have a feeling that you don't act in a situation like one should, then you got something.

Tesla is a great concept: eco + sporty + feel you're a supermodel.

As being an entrepreneur; be annoying, be outrageous. Your mission isn't to be cute.

About Measuring Social Media Talks

Well mister professional, isn't it nice to come to a conclusion where you state "in these different networks and forums they actually talk about almost everything". No shit Einstein.

Does it mean that in Germany they only speak about Bratwurst? No. It is the tribes context my dear professional, zie tribes. I just hope someone doesn't go and listen to a statement like this… and pay for it.

How do you know you're an Y-gen..?

A: When somebody says to you "I put my URL in the paper, although they can't click and take a look at it" and you reply "But Word converts URLs to links automatically".

So, if a .doc is paper, what's paper paper then?
